Senior MP: Iran, Syria Spearheading Anti-Zionism Moves

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator said the Zionist lobby is pressuring Washington and other western countries to increase sanctions against Iran and Syria since Tehran and Damascus play a pioneering role in the fight against Zionism.
Member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said under the influence of the Zionist lobby, Washington exerts pressure on independent countries to "undermine their power".

The legislator emphasized that Tehran and Damascus are pioneers in the global fight against Zionism.

He added that the US believes that "the spread of Islamic and anti-arrogance uprisings" in the Middle East have endangered Israel's security.

This is the reason that the US Treasury Department seeks to mount pressure on Tehran and Damascus under the pretext of defending human rights, Naqavi Hosseini said.

Naqavi Hosseini lashed out at the United States for imposing sanctions on Iran and Syria, and warned that Washington uses human rights as a tool to exert pressure on independent countries.

The US Treasury Department on Wednesday imposed new sanctions against Syria and Iran over accusations that Damascus is abusing human rights and Tehran is supporting the Syrian government.

Political observers believe that the United States has remained at loggerheads with Iran mainly over the independent and home-grown nature of Tehran's nuclear technology, which gives the Islamic Republic the potential to turn into a world power and a role model for the other third-world countries.
