Envoy Sees $17bln Trade Balance for Tehran-Tokyo Exchanges

TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran's envoy to Tokyo said despite sanctions, the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Japan is expected to reach $17bln in future.
Iran's Ambassador to Japan Abbas Araqchi underlined that sanctions have left no negative impact on the two countries' ties, and said Tehran's trade value with Tokyo amounted to $12bln last year despite the western sanctions.

"We are expecting trade value in the current year (which ends on March 19, 2012) to reach $14bln to $15bln," Abbas Araqchi told the Islamic republic news agency.

In light of the current friendly relations between the two countries, "the figure is expected to reach $17bln" in future, Araqchi said.

Iran is one of the main oil suppliers for Japan, said the ambassador, adding that Iran and Japan are serious to promote the relations in different fields.

The diplomat further pointed out that the situation is ripe for the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in various areas, particularly in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
