Ahmadinejad: Iran Progressing Speedily

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad underlined that construction and reconstruction efforts and measures are progressing well and at a higher speed in the country despite intensified pressures and sanctions imposed against Iran by the world powers.
"Today, construction in Iran is progressing at a very high speed," Ahmadinejad said in the inauguration ceremony of a 318MW combined cycle power plant in the country's Southeastern port city of Chabahar on Monday morning.

He referred to the long span of time needed for accomplishing development and construction projects in Iran in the past, and boasted that today such projects are completed in the shortest period of time possible.

"The Chabahar combined cycle power plant was only built in a 13 to 16-month period," Ahmadinejad added.

The power plant built on 66mln Euros of funding is the biggest in Sistan and Balouchestan province and can supply 30% of the province's energy needs.

The combined cycle power plant now uses gasoil to generate electricity, but officials said once the gas fueling unit of the power plant starts operation, the plant will generate over 470MW of electricity.

Iran has recently taken a giant stride towards generating electricity at the national level through the inauguration of different kinds of power plants.

Ahmadinejad had in May inaugurated the world's first solar-gas combined cycle power plant in the central city of Yazd.

The combined cycle power plant, located in Northwestern Yazd, is among the largest power plants in Iran and is the first of a kind in the world.

Iran's first solar power plant was inaugurated in Shiraz in Southern parts of the country late 2009.

"All the equipment for the power plant was manufactured using domestic materials and expertise", Director of the solar energy division of the Iranian Renewable Energies Organization Peyman Kanan announced at the time.
