S. Korea extends travel ban to Libya by 3 months
SEOUL, July 4 (Yonhap) -- The Foreign Ministry extended a ban on South Korean passport holders traveling to Libya by three months on Monday, amid simmering arms conflicts between rebels and government forces in the North African nation.
South Korea has banned its people from traveling to Libya without special permission from the government since March. Those who do not comply may face punishment of up to one year in prison or pay a fine.
The three-month extension from July 15 came after a meeting of the government's passport policy deliberation committee, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The decision was made "after taking into account the rapid-changing situation in Libya," it said.
Also, the ministry extended travel bans on Iraq by six months and on Somalia and Afghanistan by one year each from August, it said.
