Japan's industrial output revised upward for July

TOKYO, Sept. 12 Kyodo - Japan's industrial production grew a seasonally adjusted 1.3 percent in July from the previous month, revised upward from a 0.9 percent increase in the preliminary reading, the government said Friday.

The index of output in mines and factories stood at 108.3 against 100 for the
base year of 2005, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said in a
revised report.
The ministry chiefly attributed the first expansion in two months to strong car
and truck exports to resource-rich countries and emerging economies.
The upward revision was made as output figures for some food products and
alcoholic beverages were not available at the time of the initial report,
ministry officials said, adding that sales of beer and other alcoholic
beverages were brisk due to the hot summer.
The index of industrial shipments rose 1.9 percent to 108.9, up from 1.6
percent in the preliminary report, released Aug. 29.
The inventory index slipped 0.1 percent to 105.8, compared with the earlier
reported 0.2 percent decrease.
