Samsung Heavy wins US$1.12 bln deal for two drill ships

SEOUL, July 6 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Heavy Industries Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, said Wednesday that it has won a US$1.12 billion deal to build two drill ships. Under the contract with Maersk Drilling, a unit of A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S, Samsung Heavy will deliver the vessels, used to find oil and gas wells in deep waters, by July 2014, the company said. So far this year, Samsung Heavy has won deals valued at $14.2 billion, far exceeding this year's annual order target of $11.5 billion. Last year, Samsung Heavy won contracts worth $9.7 billion. Shares of Samsung Heavy were trading at 47,450 won on the Seoul bourse as of 9:40 a.m., up 1.17 percent.
