Turkish FM appears in joint press conference with UAE counterpart

ANKARA (A.A) - July 5, 2011 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday held a joint press conference with his United Arab Emirates counterpart Abdallah bin Zayid Al Nuhayyan after a meeting which was also joined by  Mahmoud Jibril, a senior Libyan opposition figure, in the Turkish capital Ankara.
"In our meeting today we reviewed details over a gathering of the Libya Contact Group which is set to take place in Istanbul. The contact group is a most important forum that shows the determination of the international community on the future of Libya," Davutoglu said.
The Turkish FM said Turkey had earlier proposed a road map to end the conflict in Libya, expressing hope that the Istanbul meeting of the contact group would yield a consensus over several such road maps for a political settlement in Libya.
"There are some important steps needed to be taken for Libya. And the most pressing one is to put an end to the bloodshed and to launch a political transition process," Davutoglu said.
Al Nuhayyan on his part said that the meeting of the contact group must send a clear message to the Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
"If he is a true leader of the Libyan people then he must show to the world he can self-sacrifice for the sake of Libya. But unfortunately we are witnessing that he is sacrificing the Libyan people instead," Al Nuhayyan said.
