Senior Iranian MP Blames US Policies for Raising Wall of Mistrust
TEHRAN (FNA)- The policies pursued by the US and its animosities towards the Iranian nation have built a wall of mistrust between Tehran and Washington, a senior Iranian legislator said.
"We cannot trust the remarks of the US officials on interaction (with Iran)," Head of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi noted.
The senior Iranian lawmaker also blasted US officials for making contradictory remarks about the resumption of talks with Tehran, saying Washington's carrot-and-stick approach toward Iran has proven inefficient.
"The US carrot-and-stick policy on Iran has no value at all," Boroujerdi said on Monday.
He added that Washington's dark record before and after Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979 proved that its policies are based on enmity towards the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian legislator stated that the US is still making utmost efforts to impose sanctions and exert political and economic pressure on Tehran although American officials know that the carrot-and-stick policy on the Islamic Republic will not work.
He emphasized that Iran will strongly pursue its policies and peaceful objectives in line with international regulations.
Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically-tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
Political observers believe that the United States has remained at loggerheads with Iran mainly over the independent and home-grown nature of Tehran's nuclear technology, which gives the Islamic Republic the potential to turn into a world power and a role model for the other third-world countries.
