Turkmen President Stresses Further Expansion of Relations with Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar underscored his country's eagerness to further promote bilateral ties with Tehran.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Berdimuhamedov praised Iran's significant role in the region, and called for promotion of relations between the two countries.

The Iranian interior minister, for his part, said that cooperation with the neighboring countries is Tehran's strategy, noting that Iran and Turkmenistan should increase the level of bilateral interactions in all spheres.

He praised the friendly and cordial ties between the two countries, saying, "Tehran and Ashgabat can cooperate on their campaign against terrorism, organized crime, and narcotics."

Najjar, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Ashgabat on Tuesday morning to confer with Turkmen officials on the further development and deepening of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Among the Iranian officials in the Iranian delegation accompanying the interior minister are the governors of Golestan and North Khorassan provinces as well as a number of MPs.

Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and neighboring countries, specially those in the Central Asia.

Late in June, the Turkmen President in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described Tehran as a reliable partner for Ashgabat, and urged further expansion of relations and cooperation between the two states.
