Iranian Official Blasts West's Long Record in Supporting Dictators

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili lashed out at the western states, the US in particular, for their all-out support for dictatorial regimes in the world.
"The United States and some Western powers are among the main [parties] accused of stabilizing and sustaining dictators in the world," Jalili said on Tuesday.

He also stated that people of the region are distrustful of the US and Western powers' claims of advocacy of democracy.

"The peoples of the region do not believe the claims of seeking democracy made by international supporters of dictators," Jalili reiterated.

The official noted that "the claims of seeking democracy by these powers do not obviate their responsibility for [providing] decades-long all-out support for these dictators".

Political observers believe that people's uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, Jordan, Yemen and Libya are the result of growing "Islamic awakening" in the Middle-Eastern countries.

Observers also believe that the recent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Jordan are the result of the United States' double-standards in the Middle-East and its biased policies against the different nations.

People in the Middle-East now believe that the western approach to the ongoing revolutions in these countries has unveiled the true nature of the West's stance on democracy.

The United States and certain other western countries have adopted a double-standard approach towards the popular protests against the dictatorial regimes in the region.
