Number of Syrians taking shelter in Turkey drops to 9,472
ANKARA (A.A) - July 6, 2011 - Number of Syrian people who escaped from the violence in their country and took shelter in Turkey dropped to 9,472 as of Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), a total of 15,371 Syrian nationals have fled to Turkey and 5,899 of them have returned to their country until today.
AFAD said 267 Syrian nationals returned to Syria, as 36 more Syrians entered Turkey to seek shelter on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As of today, a total of 9,472 Syrians are staying at tent-camps in Turkey, the statement added.
AFAD said Syrians were staying in six temporary tent-sites set up by Turkish Red Crescent in Altinozu, Yayladagi, Reyhanli towns and Apaydin village of Turkey's southern province of Hatay.
Hundreds of people have been killed during pro-democracy protests in Syria since January 2011.
