Turkmen FM: Ashgabat Ready to Take Every Measure to Promote Ties with Iran
TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredev in a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar reiterated that his country is ready to sign any kind of agreement with Tehran which secures the two countries' interests and bolsters their bilateral relations.
"We are ready to take any measure like holding negotiations and endorsement of the documents proposed by Iran based on mutual interests to maintain and strengthen the good and intimate ties between the two countries," Meredev said in Ashgabat on Wednesday.
Najjar, for his part, pointed to the lengthy borders shared by Iran and Turkmenistan and the possibility for both sides to increase their trade exchanges, and said, "There are proper grounds for the development of cooperation and ties between the two countries, including trade, road construction, transportation, transit, oil and gas and electricity."
He also underlined Iran's preparedness to transfer its experiences to Turkmenistan in military industries as well as agricultural, industrial and other fields.
Najjar, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Ashgabat on Tuesday morning to confer with Turkmen officials on the further development and deepening of mutual cooperation between the two countries.
Among the Iranian officials in the Iranian delegation accompanying the interior minister are the governors of Golestan and North Khorassan provinces as well as a number of MPs.
Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and neighboring countries, specially those in the Central Asia.
Late in June, the Turkmen President in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described Tehran as a reliable partner for Ashgabat, and urged further expansion of relations and cooperation between the two states.
