Host of 2018 Winter Olympics decided in first-round voting: IOC
DURBAN, South Africa, July 6 (Yonhap) -- The host city for the 2018 Winter Olympics has been decided in the first round of voting by International Olympic Committee (IOC) members here Wednesday, IOC President Jacques Rogge said.
But the winner from the three bidders -- PyeongChang of South Korea, Munich of Germany and Annecy of France -- will not be announced until after 5 p.m. local time, or midnight Korean time.
Rogge said one of the candidates has earned an outright majority of the votes in the opening round of secret balloting. Of 110 vote-wielding IOC members, 95 were available to cast their votes in the first round. PyeongChang, bidding for the third straight time, is considered a favorite.
