KEPCO unit signs joint deal to build hydropower plant

SEOUL, July 7 (Yonhap) -- Korea Midland Power Co., a unit of South Korea's state-run power monopoly Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), said Thursday that it has signed an agreement with three other companies to build and manage a hydroelectric power plant in northern Vietnam.
The agreement calls for Korea Midland Power and the three partners to jointly construct and operate a 40-megawatt hydroelectric power plant along the Nam Muc River in Dien Bien Province, some 300 kilometer west of Hanoi.
The three partner companies are Daewoo Engineering Company Co. of South Korea, Long Tao Energy Holdings Co. and Vietnam's Song Da Investment & Construction JSC.
Detailed schedules for construction will be decided later, Korea Midland Power said.
The electricity generated from the power plant will supply Vietnam's state-run electricity corporation, EVN, according to Korea Midland Power.
Korea Midland Power said the US$100 million project will help it secure a foothold to tap deeply into the Southeast Asian country and diversify its overseas business portfolio.
