Russian-French transplantation center to open in Krasnodar soon.
KRASNODAR, July 9 (Itar-Tass) -- A Russian-French Transplantation
Center will open in Krasnodar in the near future soon.
"The governor of Kuban, Alexander Tkachyov, discussed this important
theme at a meeting with French Minister of Health, Nora Berra, in Moscow,"
the governor's press-service told Itar-Tass on Friday.
"I do hope that the Russian-French Center of Transplantation will
actively cooperate with our territorial health service. Of late our
specialists significantly progressed in this direction," Governor Tkachyov
said.
Last year, in the Krasnodar territory there were performed 83
transplantations of kidneys, lung and liver, and 45 transplantations of
the heart. For the residents of the territory the surgeries were free.
Therefore, the creation in the Kuban capital of a Russian-French Center of
Transplantation will be not a casual event, he said.
On Thursday, Russia's Health and Social Development Minister Tatyana
Golikova, speaking at the first Russian-French Forum on Health in Moscow,
recalled that in 2010 the Krasnodar Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, with
assistance from French experts, held the first joint lung transplant
operation. Golikova confirmed that this cooperation would continue.
"There will be more such operations in the future," the health
minister said. "Moreover, Mrs. Nora Berra (France's state secretary for
health) would like to see a joint Russian-French clinic."
The initiators of the center of transplantation in Krasnodar are the
chief doctor of the regional hospital, surgeon Vladimir Porkhanov and
surgeon of world renown Gilbert Massard, who often assisted his Krasnodar
colleague in complex operations.
"They have jointly decided to create a center for transplantation,
and I think it is very important. You may ask, what is the future of this
initiative? Excellent! Together we can develop all kinds of
transplantations," said Berra. "Cooperation with Russia in this vital area
can bring much benefit to both countries."
