3 dead, 3 missing as heavy rains hit southeastern S. Korea

MIRYANG, South Korea, July 9 (Yonhap) -- Heavy monsoon rains and floods have hit southeastern parts of South Korea, leaving three people dead and three others missing, emergency officials said Saturday.
Since earlier in the day, as much as 20 centimeters of rain has fallen in South Gyeongnam province, with the heavy rainfall causing flooding and property damage.
Two people, a 68-year-old woman and her 4-year-old granddaughter, were killed when a landslide destroyed their home in Miryang, a city 386 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The woman's grandson, 15, is missing.
A 72-year-old woman near the victims' home is also missing after being swept away in the floods.
In Uiryeong, a 73-year-old woman was found dead, apparently a victim of the flash floods. Another woman, 71, is missing.
