Envoy Blasts West's Policies on Human Rights, Developments in Region

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Envoy to The Hague Kazzem Qaribabadi lashed out at the western states' double-standard policy on issues like human rights, suppression of the people in Bahrain and recent developments in the region.
Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of Iranian students from the Tehran University and students of the Faculty of Political Sciences of Amsterdam University, Qaribabadi, who is also Iran's Ambassador to the Netherlands, pointed to the popular uprisings and Islamic awakening in the region and criticized the West for its discriminatory attitudes towards regional events, specially in Bahrain.
The diplomat also explained the West's double-standard policy on human rights and violation of human rights in the western countries.
Qaribabadi further deplored the West for its all-out support for the Israeli violation of human rights and massacre of the innocent people in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Iran has always lashed out at the western countries for using human rights issues as a tool and pretext for pressurizing independent states to conceal their own crimes and wrong deeds.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in November lambasted continued violation of human rights by certain European countries, and asked them to listen to the demands of their people.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry in November issued a report on the violation of human rights by the US inside and outside its borders, and urged Washington to join the international conventions which prohibit such crimes.
It was stressed in the Foreign Ministry report that the United States, as a self-proclaimed standard bearer of defense for the human rights in the world, has despite the international community and the UN demand, and even despite President Barack Obama's promise, still not shut down the horrendous Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib prisons.
