AGL says carbon scheme addresses concerns

SYDNEY (AAP) - July 09 - AGL Energy Ltd says the carbon pricing scheme announced by the government has attempted to address a number of key concerns of the energy industry.
"For the energy industry, the government has very actively engaged with the key players who are most affected," AGL chief executive Michael Fraser said in a statement on Sunday.
The electricity and gas retailer would need to work through the details of the package, he said.
Some of the key concerns of the energy industry had been the risks to the efficient and reliable operation of the electricity market, particularly in Victoria and South Australia, Mr Fraser said.
Mr Fraser also said that AGL supported the introduction of a price on carbon emissions as soon as possible to provide investment certainty for the energy industry.
He added that studies had found a market based carbon trading scheme had the best chance of achieving the government's, and opposition's, target of reducing emissions by five per cent from 2000 levels by 2020.
