Iran Condemns US Meddling in Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry deplored Washington's direct interference in Syria's internal affairs, and said presence of the US ambassador in the troublesome Hama city in Syria is suspicious and violates diplomatic norms.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani made the remarks on Sunday, and stressed that at the present sensitive juncture in Syria when different groups are moving towards national dialogue, the US ambassador's visit to Hama is a blatant interference in the internal affairs of Syria.

Sheibani further pointed out that the US adopts such deceptive and hypocritical moves in a bid to repair its reputation in the region which has long been damaged by Washington's interfering and hegemonic behavior and policies.

He underlined that the US ambassador's presence in Hama city is a highly dangerous move aimed at normalizing foreign interference in other countries' internal affairs and violation of governments' national sovereignty.

Syria had earlier accused the United States of interfering in its affairs after its ambassador travelled to the flashpoint city of Hama without official permission.

The Syrian government, which has previously blamed foreigners for encouraging the uprising, said the visit proved Washington has a hand in unrests.

Also, Syria's state-run news agency said, "The presence of the US ambassador in Hama without obtaining prior permission from the Foreign Ministry is clear evidence of the US involvement in the ongoing events in Syria."

The US is trying to "aggravate the situations which destabilize Syria," the statement added.
