SEOUL, July 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start on Tuesday, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) tumbled 23.2 points, or 1.08 percent, to 2,133.96 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Shares lost ground across the board, with blue chips leading the decline. No. 2 automaker Kia Motors fell more than 2 percent and leading steelmaker POSCO lost around 1 percent.
U.S. stocks underwent sharp losses on Monday as fears on the eurozone debt situation rocked the market.
The local currency was trading at 1,066.2 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., down 8.4 won from Monday's close.
