Auto parts maker Mando wins supplier award from Chrysler

SEOUL, July 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean auto parts manufacturer Mando Corp. said Tuesday that it has won a top supplier award from Chrysler for making high-quality chassis for the U.S.-based carmaker.
The annual award is only given to a handful of companies out of the more than 3,000 parts suppliers that do business with Chrysler, with Mando being recognized in the chassis-mechanical field, the company said.
This is the first time Mando has clinched the award since it began supplying brakes and steering systems to Chrysler in 2004. The company has won a total of five Supplier of the Year awards from General Motors Co. (GM) since 2003.
"The award is expected to lay the foundation for expanding the partnership arrangement that already exists between Mando and Chrysler," a company spokesperson said. "It could open new opportunities with Italy's Fiat Group Automobiles S.P.A., which has a strategic tie-up arrangement with Chrysler."
Mando, meanwhile, said that it has expanded its MCA Detroit R&D center as part of its efforts to increase its market presence in the United States.
Besides supplying parts to Chrysler, GM and Ford Motor Co., the company recently won car parts orders from such companies as France's PSA and Renault S.A. and Germany's luxury carmaker BMW.
