Tehran to Pursue Iranian Citizens' Rights at Int'l Circles
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Vice-President for Legal Affairs Fatemeh Bodaqi underlined Tehran's determination to restore and protect the rights of all Iranian nationals and citizens throughout the world.
"A law has been approved in the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iranian parliament) which requires the government to pursue the citizenship rights of all individuals whose rights are being violated by the actions and measures of the other countries," Bodaqi told FNA on Tuesday.
She noted that given the bad and poor conditions dominating the international policies, Iran will use all its possibilities to protect the rights of Iranian nationals and officials.
She further blasted the present method used in the practice of the international laws and norms for being politically-tainted and pursuing double-standard approaches.
Bodaqi noted the sanctions imposed by the US on a number of Iranian officials, and stated, "The bans imposed by the US on individuals are in violation of all the claims made by the country about (respect for and protection of) human rights."
The European Union on April 14, imposed travel bans and other sanctions against 32 Iranian police commanders, judges and prison wardens who, the bloc claims, have committed human rights abuses.
The sanctions also include freezing of the individuals' assets in EU nations. The European Union earlier imposed similar sanctions against people with leading roles in Iran's nuclear program.
The US State Department imposed similar sanctions against eight Iranian officials in September.
Political analysts say that both actions are nothing more than a symbolic action since very few Iranian officials travel to the US or the European Union.
