CJ O Shopping launches 2nd home shopping channel in China


SEOUL, July 13 (Yonhap) -- CJ O Shopping Co., a South Korean cable home shopping channel, said Wednesday that its Chinese joint venture launched its second home shopping channel in China and started digital broadcasts.
Dongbang CJ, the joint venture with Shanghai Media Group in China, has acquired channel number 20 and broadcasts its home shopping programs digitally around the clock to 2.5 million digital cable TV viewers in Shanghai, according to CJ O Shopping, formerly CJ Home Shopping.
CJ O Shopping's first channel, which launched in 2004, currently provides analog programming.
With the new channel, CJ O Shopping reaches some 10 million analog viewers plus 2.5 million digital viewers in Shanghai and its neighboring regions, the company said.
Dongbang CJ recently won nationwide broadcast rights from the Chinese government, said CJ O Shopping.
CJ O Shopping said it expects Dongbang CJ's sales to reach 1 trillion won (US$940 billion) this year, up from 700 billion won last year. It said that it plans to launch one or two more channels in large Chinese cities later this year.
CJ O Shopping launched its first joint home-shopping venture in Shanghai in 2004.
