Kimberly-Clark to set up innovation center in S. Korea

SEOUL, July 13 (Yonhap) -- Kimberly-Clark Corp., a global maker of diapers and other health care products, said Wednesday that it will establish a global innovation center in South Korea to focus on research and development of next-generation products.
The global innovation center will replace the company's regional research center set up in 2006 in Giheung, about 40 kilometers south of Seoul, Kimberly-Clark said.
The envisioned Korean center will be the first such institution established by the U.S. company outside North America, according to Kimberly-Clark.
The company said that it chose South Korea as the home of the new center due to the country's favorable climate for innovation and development, including a technically skilled talent pool, market presence and the good reputation of its local joint venture, Yuhan-Kimberly Co.
The establishment of the center marks Kimberly-Clark's commitment to develop cutting-edge products in cooperation with Yuhan-Kimberly, the U.S. company added.
The company said it will announce another country as the site of its second global innovation center next month.
