MEGA SPORTING EVENTS BRING SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS TO HOST COUNTRIES, SAYS VISA
SINGAPORE, July 13 (Bernama) -- Mega sporting events create significant increases in expenditure and give host countries a chance to shine on the global stage, said Visa Inc, a global leader in payments.
In a report released Wednesday, Visa said for the three events analysed -- 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games -- there was a healthy growth in Visa payment card expenditure.
The report, which analysed Visa cardholder spending patterns, known as VisaVue Travel data, showed that there was an 82 per cent increase in the card spending for FIFA World Cup, 93 per cent for Vancouver Olympic Winter Games and 15 per cent for Beijing Olympic Games.
