Turkey's deputy premier says recent current deficit figures in line with projections

ANKARA (A.A) - July 13, 2011 - Turkey's deputy prime minister said on Wednesday that recent current (accounts) deficit figures were in line with projections made public before June 12th elections.
Ali Babacan said the recent figures were not a surprise.
"Current (accounts) deficit will continue to be high for some more time," Babacan told reporters.
Babacan said however, current (accounts) deficit would be more reasonable as of the last quarter of 2011.
Turkey's current account deficit rose 121.3 percent to $37.2 billion in the first five months of 2011 when compared to the same period of 2010, indicating an increase of $20.4 billion, Central Bank announced on Monday.
The deficit was 16.8 billion USD in the first five months of 2010. The rise in foreign trade deficit caused the current account deficit to increase.
