Funeral of Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh

(KPL) The national funeral of Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh, Former President of the Lao PDR who passed away on last Tuesday, 9 September was held yesterday.
Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh, former politburo member LPRP CC, former president died on 9 September 2008 at the age of 98.
Top leaders of the Party, the State, Mass-organisation attended the funeral. Present at the funeral were Choumaly Sayasone, President of the LPRP CC and State President, Mr. Bounnhang Vorachit, Politburo of the LPRP CC and Vice President of the Lao PDR, Mr. Thongsing Thammavong, Politburo member of the LPRP CC and President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, Politburo member of the LPRP CC and Premier of the Lao PDR and other top leaders of Laos. The crematorium was built in That Luang square.
The dead of Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh was announced the same day in a release issued by the Executive Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly, the Lao Government and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction.
During his illness, the Lao Party and State took care him by providing medical treatment for him until the end.
Mr. Nouhak Phoumsavanh was a veteran of the Lao Party and State who devoted all his intelligence and strength till the last minute of his life to the struggle for national independence and freedom of the Lao people as well as the safeguarding of the new regime and the national construction and development in the new period.
The release commended Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh as a revolutionary of ardent patriotism and firm will, a wise and able politician and military officers, and an experienced activist.
He made a great contribution to the Lao Party, State, nation and people. His departure is a great loss and cause sadness, grief and mourning to the entire Lao Party, Army and people.
To show gratitude and mourning to him, the executive Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly, the Lao Government, and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction announced a five-day mourning period.
