GCC Chief Lauds Signing of Darfur Peace Agreement
Riyadh, July 14 (QNA) - HE Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Dr Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani praised the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement, which took place in Doha today between the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement, saying it represents a culmination of strenuous and sincere efforts by the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to achieve security and stability in Darfur.
The GCC Secretary-General in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) said the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement reflects the of sincere intentions and good efforts spared by the State of Qatar to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace in Darfur to end the long years of conflict, strife and bloodshed in Sudan, and to open the way for the people of Sudan to take advantage of peace opportunities as well as to fulfill the requirements of construction and development that the Sudanese people are aspiring to.
Al Zayani said the Darfur Peace Agreement represents the epitome of efforts done by the effective diplomacy of Qatar, which led to the signing of the Doha document that was approved by the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference held in Doha last May. He stressed that the GCC states support the efforts of the State of Qatar and its good intentions for security and stability in Sudan.
Concluding his remarks, the GCC Secretary-General voiced hope that this agreement would end the conflict in Darfur, while wishing that it would unite the ranks of Sudanese people to take every efforts possible to establish peace in Darfur. (QNA)
