Seoul shares open lower on U.S. losses

SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start on Friday, tracking overnight falls on Wall Street, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) slipped 4.94 points, or 0.23 percent, to 2,125.13 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Oil refiners were bearish, with top player SK Innovation losing more than 1 percent.
In contrast, builders and retailers outperformed the market. Industry leader Hyundai Engineering & Construction jumped nearly 2 percent and discount chain operator E-mart gained around 2 percent.
U.S. stocks slumped on Thursday after Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said the time has not come yet for the U.S. central bank to inject more money into its flagging economy.
The local currency was trading at 1,057.6 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up 0.8 won from Thursday's close.
