Justice minister nominee lauded for insight, extensive knowledge

(profile) SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) -- Kwon Jae-jin, designated on Friday as the new justice minister, had long served in key prosecution posts before being named as the presidential secretary on civil affairs for President Lee Myung-bank two years ago.
Kwon, a graduate of Seoul National University with a bachelor's degree in law, passed the state judicial examination in 1978 and has assumed top posts at an array of prosecution agency offices including the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office.
Throughout his career as a prosecutor, the incoming justice minister earned a reputation for putting a priority on ground rules and his penetrating insight into complex legal issues.
He is also known inside the prosecution circle for his sense of humor drawn from his extensive knowledge on liberal arts and other general matters. Kwon has also been highly lauded for his diplomatic leadership style.
After a National Assembly hearing, he will replace outgoing justice minister Lee Kwi-nam.
The minister nominee joined the presidential office in late 2009 after resigning in June of the same year as the head of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office.
