Kiteboarder from RF sailing team receives gunshot wound in Anapa
MOSCOW, July 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Ivan Doronin, a kiteboarder of the
Russian sailing team, received a stomach gunshot wound in a quarrel during
a training session in Anapa, the All-Russian Yachting Federation reported
on Sunday.
"Ivan witnessed a local resident to settle the scores with other
athletes. He has made a remark to the latter that had made a shot from the
rifle in retaliation and had hit Ivan in the belly. He was urgently
hospitalized for a surgery," the chairman of the kitesurfing committee in
the All-Russian Yachting Federation Ilya Vinokurov said.
"A few days ago Doronin completed his performance at the Sailing World
Championships in Germany and arrived in Anapa for a training session as
part of the training for the Russian Sailing Championship," Vinokurov
recalled. However, this incident prevented Ivan Doronin from completing
his training for the Russian Championship and "it is still unclear what
consequences this wound will have for a young and promising athlete."
The chairman of the kitesurfing committee also noted that "the
Krasnodar Territory is losing an image of a sport venue each year, at
least for sailing athletes despite all its climatic and geographic
advantages for sailing trainings." The only yacht club in the town of
Anapa was turned in a holiday home with restaurants and cottages, and a
swimming pool with a bar was opened at the place, where Olympic-class
yachts were placed. "Finally, the Russian sailing team lost a unique place
for training," Vinokurov noted.
The executive director of the All-Russian Yachting Federation Oskar
Konyukhov believes that the All-Russian Yachting Federation "finds it more
and more difficult to give reasons to athletes to train in Russia,
particularly in the Krasnodar Territory." "The expensive accommodation,
the lack of an infrastructure for yachts, a negligent attitude of local
municipal authorities to the sailing competitions result in the fact that
most athletes are training all year long in Spain, Croatia and Portugal."
The All-Russian Yachting Federation has made a request to the
Krasnodar territorial branch of the Investigation Committee to investigate
the crime. A letter to this effect was also sent to the governor of the
Krasnodar Territory.
