Clinton meets Turkish opposition parties

ISTANBUL (A.A) - July 17, 2011 - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met Saturday Kemal Kilicdaroglu, chairman of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), in Istanbul.
No statement has been made after the meeting that lasted half an hour.
Clinton later met Selahattin Demirtas, Group Chairman of Peace & Democracy Party (BDP). The meeting was closed to the press.
Speaking to reporters following the 20-minute meeting, Demirtas said Clinton wanted to meet the opposition parties in Turkey.
"We have shared our party policies regarding the solution of fundamental problems in Turkey. Turkey has the potential to solve its problems through compromise and dialogue. It is up to the government and opposition to evaluate this. Success of the politics on this matter will strengthen Turkey's politics. This potential exists in Turkey. Although we have problems, we are hopeful about future," he said.
Clinton also met Meral Aksener, an MP from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), at Conrad Hotel in Istanbul.
No statement has been made after the meeting that lasted half an hour.
Clinton, who attended the 4th "Libya Contact Group" in Istanbul, later departed from Turkey.
