Turkish Cypriots begin providing electricity to Greek Cypriots

LEFKOSA (A.A) - July 18, 2011 - Following an agreement signed between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Greek Cypriot administration, the TRNC on Sunday supplied 20 megawatts of electricity to the Greek Cypriot administration.
The TRNC provided 16 megawatts of electricity to the Greek Cypriot administration on Saturday.
An agreement signed between the two sides in Cyprus will be in effect until the end of August and the TRNC may provide up to 120 megawatts of electricity in a day.
The TRNC sells one kilowatt for 43 kurus.
An electric power plant in the Greek Cypriot administration was damaged on July 11 after an explosion shook a naval base. The Greek Cypriot administration decided to buy electricity from the TRNC following this accident.
