IRGC Disbands PJAK Terrorist Team

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that it has disbanded a team of terrorists sent by the Iraq-based armed opposition group, PJAK (Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan), to stage terrorist operations and create insecurity in Northwestern Iran.
During the operations, the IRGC forces killed, injured and arrested tens of terrorists and destroyed their headquarters in the bordering areas of Alvatan near Sardasht city in Northwestern Iran.
Reports also said that a number of terrorists have managed to escape the scene after injuring three IRGC members.
Iran has recently deployed 5,000 military forces in the Northwestern parts of the country along its joint border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The purpose of the deployment is holding military maneuvers with the aim of stabilizing the border area and fighting counterrevolutionary groups.
Members of the terrorist PJAK group - an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) - regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country's Western borders with Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Recognized as a terrorist group by Turkey, Iran, Iraq, the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations, the PKK is responsible for many deadly operations in Northern Iraq and Southern Turkey.
