Doppler weather radar to be installed on Russky Island
VLADIVOSTOK, July 19 (Itar-Tass) - A doppler weather radar will be
installed on Russky Island, near Vladivostok, which will host an APEC
summit in 2012, the head of the Primorye Meteorological Service, Boris
Kubai, said on Tuesday.
It will appear on the island at the end of this year, making it
possible to see all weather conditions within the radius of 300
kilometres, Kubai said.
The radar will help weathermen to fix dangerous natural phenomena -
hail, thunderstorm, wind intensification, heavy rains and snow, strong
turbulence. According to him, if radars of Primorye, the Korean peninsula,
Japan and China are united into one network, the lead time of forecasts
will grow several times, as specialists of the Primorye Meteorological
Service will have exact data on typhoons and cyclones several thousand
kilometres away from Primorye.
Two more weather radars will be installed in Primorye - one in the
settlement of Knevichi (in 2012) and the other one in the city of
Dalnerechinsk (in 2014-2015).
