Commander: Countries Seeking Iran's Experience in Drug Campaign

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the anti-narcotics squad of Iran's Law Enforcement Police General Hamid Reza Hossein-Abadi said that many countries have expressed willingness to use Iran's experiences in policing affairs, campaign against illicit-drugs in particular.
"Given the abundant experiences that Iran has achieved in the campaign against narcotics, there are many countries that are eager to use these experiences in their countries," Hossein-Abadi said in a meeting with Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yuri Fedotov.
"Iran stands at the forefront of campaign against narcotic materials," the commander reiterated, reminding that the issue has been acknowledged by the international circles.
He further pointed to the establishment of an international training center by Iran's anti-narcotics police, and explained that so far many countries' police forces have participated and been trained in the workshops of this center
The commander added that the center will soon start a similar workshop for the Indonesian police.
Iran leads international efforts in fighting drug networks and narcotic traffickers. According to the statistical figures released by the UN, Iran ranks first among the world countries in preventing entry of drugs and decreasing demand for narcotics.
The United Nations credits Iran with the seizure of 80 percent of the opium netted around the world.
On Monday, Fedotov announced that over 80% of the world's opium seizures and 40% of heroin and morphine seizures are made by Iran's law enforcement police forces.
