Korea-U.S. Business Council receives Van Fleet Award
NEW YORK, July 19 (Yonhap) -- The Korea-U.S. Business Council, run by South Korea's largest business lobby, on Tuesday received an annual award from the Korea Society in recognition of its role in promoting Seoul-Washington relations.
The council, operated by the Federation of Korean Industries, was chosen as a co-recipient of this year's Van Fleet Award with its American counterpart, the U.S.-Korea Business Council.
Named after Gen. James A. Van Fleet, the award is given to Korean or American individuals or groups for contributions to the promotion of U.S.-Korea relations.
The general served as the first president of the New York-based Korea Society, aimed at boosting ties between the two nations.
Hyun Jae-hyun, chairman of the Seoul-based Tong Yang Group and leader of the council, accepted the award in a ceremony here.
Former Van Fleet Award honorees include the late South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and former U.S. Presidents George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.
