St Pete symphony orchestra to give concerts in Germany
ST PETERSBURG, July 20 (Itar-Tass) - The Symphony Orchestra of St
Petersburg Cappella leaves for Germany on Wednesday for a guest tour under
the direction of its chief conductor, People's Artiste if Russia
Alexander Chernushenko. The Orchestra will take part in festivities
marking the 50th jubilee of twinned-city contacts between St Petersburg
and Dresden.
On Thursday and Friday, the Orchestra will give open-air performances
in the square outside the famous Frauenkirche within the scope of the
traditional classic open-air Dresden concerts. Such events can draw
audiences that are almost 10,000-strong.
The programme includes the symphonic etude Fair and Second piano
concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Eighteen-Twelve and the symphonic poem
Francesca da Rimini by Peter Tchaikonslkky, arias from operas by Russian
and foreign composers -- from Gaetano Donizetti to Aram Khachaturyan.
Soloists in the concerts will be pianist Arkady Zennziper and singer
Barbara Krieger, Merited Artiste of Russia Pyotr Migunov of the Choral
Cappella and Bolshoi Theatre, Vsevolod Grivnov of the Bolshoi Theatre.
Prior to the guest tour, two concerts, dedicated to the jubilee of twinned
cities' partnership, were given in the Academic Cappella Hall.
St Petersburg marked this jubilee date earlier this month by a gala
concert at the Mikhailovsky Theater, with world opera stars participating.
The soiree was attended by Chairman of the Government of Russia Vladimir
Putin.
