MP: Power Equation in Region Altered by Hezbollah's Victory over Israel

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator stressed that Lebanese resistance's victory over the Zionist regime of Israel in 2006 summer war has altered power equation in the region.
In a meeting with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman in Beirut on Tuesday, Vice-Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Reza Bahonar referred to Hezbollah's role in Lebanon's victory in the 2006 war, and said that the victory altered the region's equations, and turned Lebanon and the resistance movement of Hezbollah into a superior power.

"The Zionist regime [of Israel] once enjoyed a full military superiority in the region and thought it could threaten the capitals of Arab countries anytime it wished, but Lebanon and the resistance disturbed this balance, and today, anywhere in the occupied territories is within Lebanon's range," Bahonar stated.

He congratulated Lebanese officials on the formation of the country's new government and highlighted Iran's support for Lebanon and the Lebanese resistance against Israel.

The Iranian official also invited the Lebanese president to visit Iran.

Suleiman, for his part, urged an expansion of bilateral ties with Iran and called on the Islamic Republic to help Lebanon reach national unity.

Suleiman described the unity of the Lebanese nation as the key to resistance against Israeli threats, and called on Tehran to assist the establishment of solidarity among the Lebanese nation.

Suleiman also pointed to the 33-day war launched by Israel against Lebanon in 2006 and said, "The biggest lesson for them (Israelis) was that they should return the occupied territories to their real owners."

"Israel has today reached a point where it plans its defense strategy based on how it could protect itself from the missiles that rain on the regime," he noticed.
