Iran Ready to Transfer Experience in Drug Campaign to Other States

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Permanent Envoy to the Vienna-based UN bodies Ali Asqar Soltaniyeh announced Tehran's readiness to provide other countries with its experiences in fight against narcotics and illicit drugs.
The Islamic Republic is a pioneer of the project and is ready to transfer its experience to other countries in order to prevent the Iranian nation from suffering any damage and to also adopt serious measures to tackle narcotics across the world, Soltaniyeh stated.
Tehran will vigorously pursue the "Triangular Initiative" brokered by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on drug control cooperation between Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, he told reporters on Tuesday.
"Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan are implementing the Triangular Initiative on the fight against narcotics. The plan is to expand and include African and Central Asian countries as well," he added.
Iran leads international efforts in fighting drug networks and narcotic traffickers. According to the statistical figures released by the UN, Iran ranks first among the world countries in preventing entry of drugs and decreasing demand for narcotics.
The United Nations credits Iran with the seizure of 80 percent of the opium netted around the world.
On Monday, Executive Director of the UNODC Yuri Fedotov announced that over 80% of the world's opium seizures and 40% of heroin and morphine seizures are made by Iran's law enforcement police forces.
