High schooler arrested for raping elderly suicide victim

CHEONGJU, South Korea, July 20 (Yonhap) -- A teenage boy has been arrested for raping the corpse of an elderly woman who presumably committed suicide, police said Wednesday.
The 18-year-old high school student earlier this week found the body of the 69-year-old woman in a garden of an apartment complex in Cheongju, about 120 kilometers south of Seoul, and allegedly had sex with it, according to the Cheongnam Police Station.
The suspect told the police that he just wanted to see "what would happen," showing no remorse for his actions, police said.
After sexually violating the woman's body, he reported to the police that he had found her dead. Police began interrogating him due to confusion over his statements about the corpse, leading him to confess to his crime, they added.
Police said they are investigating whether he is mentally ill, while examining whether there is a link between his motivation and being bullied by his classmates as he claimed during the investigation.
Meanwhile, apartment surveillance cameras showed the victim getting into an elevator with a plastic chair some 30 minutes before the crime was believed to have taken place. The chair and the woman's shoes were found on the 12th floor, indicating she may have jumped to her death, according to police.
