Iran to Unveil New Major Scientific Projects in Near Future
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Vice-President for Science and Technology Nasrin Soltankhah announced that the country plans to unveil two new macro projects and eight new radiomedicine in the near future.
Speaking to reporters here in Tehran on Tuesday, Soltankhah announced that so far 15 national macro projects have been defined and the national super computer project and the project for treating incurable diseases with the help of stem cells have already been unveiled.
Production of radio medicines is among the macro plans of the government, she added.
"Fifteen radio medicines are produced in the country. Five such medicines were produced last year and two others were unveiled during a recent trip of the representative of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The eight remaining would be unveiled in the near future," the Iranian official stated.
Iran in December unveiled five different radiomedicine projects with applications for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of a number of diseases.
In September, Iran announced that it plans to synthesize 20 kinds of radiomedicine inside the country, stressing that its scientists are capable of supplying the 20%-enriched uranium needed for the production of such drugs.
"Iran has gained the necessary preparedness to produce 20 radiomedicines and we will provide the 20% (enriched) fuel needed for the production of these medicines this year," Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) for Planning, International and Parliamentary Affairs Massoud Akhavan-Fard told FNA in September.
In addition to the Tehran research reactor which has long been used by radioisotope production, Iran plans to build four other research reactors in the other parts of the country, he added.
