Daewoo Engineering Q2 net more than quadruples
SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., South Korea's fourth-largest builder, said Thursday that its second-quarter earnings more than quadrupled from a year earlier on increased overseas orders.
Net profit reached 112 billion won (US$106 million) in the April-June period, compared with a profit of 26 billion won a year earlier, it said in a regulatory filing.
Sales, however, slipped 4.23 percent to 1.73 trillion won over the cited period. The builder posted an operating income of 164 billion won in the second quarter, shifting from an operating loss of 12 billion won a year earlier, it said.
Shares of Daewoo Engineering were trading at 13,250 won on the Seoul bourse as of 10:50 a.m., up 3.11 percent.
The builder said it has received a total of 5.88 trillion won in orders in the first half of the year, up 61.4 percent from a year earlier.
Its first-half operating income also surged to 236 billion won from a mere 39.6 billion won over the cited period, it said.
