WE SHOULD BE READY FOR NEGATIVE SCENARIOS TOO
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said that if a solution was not found for the debt crisis in Europe and the United States, Turkey should also be ready for the negative scenarios.
CHANNEL ISTANBUL ANALOGY
President Dervis Eroglu of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the ruling nationalist Irsen Kucuk government were very pleased with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's harsh remarks against the EU and his emphasis on TRNC. Eroglu said that Prime Minister Erdogan, who opened Channel Istanbul, will also bring TRNC water by passing over the seas.
NO PRICE INCREASE IN MEAT IN RAMADAN
Food, Agriculture & Animal Breeding Minister Mehdi Eker gave assurance and said, "our teams are making secret controls. Photos of markets are being taken. There will be no price increase in meat or other food products ahead of the Ramadan month."

TWO CONCERTS AT A NIGHT
Legendary musician Paul Simon, who arrived in Turkey within the scope of Istanbul Jazz Festival, gave a magnificent concert at the Open Air Theater. After completing the concert in one and a half hours, 70-year-old Simon returned back to the stage when he was receiving a huge ovation. Then, the small giant man extended his concert program for 45 minutes more.
WILL A NEW CRISIS HIT US?
After Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan warned Turkey to "be ready for bad scenarios unless problem in Europe is solved", Milliyet daily newspaper resorted to opinion of experts. Prof. Dr. Mahfi Egilmez said, "Turkey's current (accounts) deficit is the main problem causing these warnings. I am expecting a crisis abroad, and since our growth is high, this crisis may affect Turkey more." Prof. Dr. Deniz Gokce said, "if crisis in Europe comes to Turkey, it will affect our exports since half of our export market is Europe. However, crisis is a low possibility for us. But if it occurs, it will have a huge effect on Turkey. There are not any public or banking problem in Turkey."
Prof. Dr. Erdogan Alkin said, "crisis possibility is increasing. A possible crisis will have a negative effect on financial markets and exports of Turkey. We can recommend individuals not to get indebted with foreign currencies and limit their expenditures."
Prof. Dr. Asaf Savas Akad said, "there are risks in world economy, and the economy management feels a necessity to warn people who are spending over their incomes, which is a useful thing."

Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke harshly to the European Union (EU) during the 37th anniversary of Cyprus Peace Operation. Erdogan said the Greek Cypriot administration, which said "no" to Annan plan with 75 percent was awarded. Erdogan said, "we cannot bear any more, and the EU will pay its price." Erdogan said Turkey would support a system consisting of "two founder states, including the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot states, with an equal status, and an international federal government with a single identity."

JET INSPECTION FROM A CIVILIAN EYE
Three inspectors assigned by Interior Ministry started investigation on the allegations in Silvan town of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir where PKK terrorists killed 13 soldiers. The inspectors are looking for answers to the allegations regarding radio conversations of terrorists, the reason of fire, late response and planning mistake in the operation.
FIVE MESSAGES FROM ERDOGAN
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan made five critical warning to all parties related with Cyprus issue.
To the EU: If Cyprus issue is not solved, Turkey-EU relations will be frozen during Greek Cypriot administration's EU presidency term.
To Greek Cypriots: Leave your primitive worries. The problem is inside you, you shall solve it.
To Greece: As a guarantor country, you shall fulfill your responsibilities in Cyprus.
To TRNC: Don't give credit to marginal thoughts. Don't sacrifice solution for daily politics.
To UN: Don't send your representative only. Explain the Annan Report in 2004.

LEAGUE'S FATE IN THEIR HANDS
A five-member ethical board will examine 26 files full of secret documents regarding match-fixing scandal which were sent by the prosecutor's office. The board will decide whether or not allegations were real. Football Federation's Ethical Board is comprised of experienced jurists, including Associate Professor Burak Oder, Professor Ilyas Dogan, Professor Oguz Atalay, lawyers Kemal Kelesoglu and Mertay Kugay.
SOCCER TO BE POSTPONED TILL END-AUGUST
Turkey's Football Federation will decide at the end of this week or the beginning of next week whether or not to launch the new season on August 5. Federation's Chairman Mehmet Ali Aydinlar said, "people are on holiday, and moreover it is a risky thing for footballers to play in hot weather. When we are in office, leagues will begin no sooner than end of August."
SALARY GESTURE TO JAILED OFFICERS
The government made a new regulation to prevent families of Ergenekon and Balyoz case suspect officers from facing economic problems, and decided to pay two-third of their salaries. Earlier, half of salaries of officers under detention or in jail was cut. If they were acquitted, the cut salaries were paid collectively.

TOLERANCE THRESHOLD EXCEEDED
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who attended ceremonies of "Peace & Freedom Day" in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), sent messages to Greek Cypriots, Greece, the EU and the UN. Noting that efforts would continue to find a solution to Cyprus question, Erdogan said, "however the window of opportunity will not remain open forever. We have exerted efforts despite injustices. But they should not forget that it is not bearable anymore."

IMF said that not finding a solution to debt crisis in Europe would cause important global impacts. It added that Turkey would be one of the most affected countries from the crisis.

Turkey's Science, Industry & Technology Minister Nihat Ergun spoke ambitiously to Radikal daily newspaper. Ergun said, "if differences had been able to easily express themselves in the past, Ocalan would have liked to be a philosopher not a terrorist." Ergun also said Turkish cars would be used in Paris and Vienna streets before 2015, adding that his deputy would not be a former politician but a scientist.
NO EXCUSE FOR MISTAKES
Gendarmery laid an ambush on Amasya-Samsun border at night. The target was the PKK members who were thought to be in the region. Two people were seen at 10:30 p.m., and fire began. Agencies reported that a clash erupted with terrorists. However, the reality was so painful that all people revolted. Two people under cross-fire were 16-year-old Gokhan and his elder brother 18-year-old Habip. They left a wedding ceremony and they were walking home. Habip called his father under fire, the father called police and police called gendarmery. Prosecutor and the commander intervened. Commander spoke to Habip and fire ended. However, three hours passed and Gokhan was dead. Gendarmery said, "we warned them to stop." Habip said, "they told us to stop when the fire ended." Jurists said, "there are not rules for opening fire."

HIT MISTAKENLY
Gokhan Cetintas (13), who was returning from a wedding in Havza town of the northern province of Samsun, was killed as he was thought to be a terrorist because he did not respond to "stop" warning of gendarmery. Gokhan had a blank firing gun in his hand.

World Bank President Robert Zoellick, who paid a visit to Turkey, said that Turkey, with its supportive role for the countries that are trying to grow, was a model for the world.

PREMIER WARNS GREEK CYPRIOTS IN CYPRUS
Ankara reacts to the fact that Greek Cypriot administration will take over the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU) next year. Addressing the European Union (EU) and setting forth his final opinion the previous day, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "our relations with the EU will be frozen during the Greek Cypriot presidency of the EU." Yesterday, Erdogan warned the Greek Cypriot administration. Addressing the Turkish Cypriot people during celebrations of the 37th anniversary of Cyprus Peace Operation, Erdogan said, "we cannot bear any more. If it is too much unbearable, Turkey will show its stance, speak with North Cyprus, puts its stance clearly and takes its step."
INTERIOR MINISTRY DELEGATION IN SILVAN TO INVESTIGATE ATTACK
Two chief civilian inspectors and a gendarmery inspector arrived in Silvan town of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir to investigate the terrorist attack which killed 13 soldiers. The delegation first met Diyarbakir Governor Mustafa Toprak, and then went to Silvan.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a message to the Greek Cypriots, who have turned ongoing Cyprus negotiations into a delaying tactic, and said, "we cannot bear any more, and Turkey will show its stance and speak clearly with North Cyprus and take its step."
Speaking at the 37th anniversary of Cyprus Peace Operation, Erdogan said, "North and South will meet, and I do not know on what issues they agree. Then, we can speak with guarantor states. But, do not keep us waiting."
INCOMPATIBLE VOICE CRISIS
The "unilateral autonomy" declaration divided the Peace & Democracy Party (BDP). Serafettin Elci and Altan Tan objected to the timing and style of autonomy and raised their voices. The party brought up a formula "to organize a camp in Van to convince members" in order to sooth opposing lawmakers. However, Elci objected it too and said, "I will go there and have a training on what?"
