Olympstroi announces contest of art objects for Sochi 2014
SOCHI, July 22 (Itar-Tass) -- The Olympstroi Corporation which is
building Olympic facilities for the Winter Games in Sochi in 2014
announced a contest of art objects for the Olympic Park on Thursday.
Olympstroi's chief architect Oleg Kharchenko said Russian and foreign
sculptors and designers can bid and applications may be submitted by
September 5.
"We plan to place in the Olympic Park both traditional sculpture and
unordinary art objects. They may include 'kinetic spacious compositions'
that change the form and color and use for that the force of wind, water
and modern technologies," Kharchenko said.
A sculpture park is planned within the Olympic Park in Imereti Valley.
"The Olympic Park and its objects comprise a unique architectural,
landscape and sport complex which has to be an attraction for Sochi
residents and guests during the Olympic Games and after them. The
aesthetics of Olympic objects, the infrastructure and environment of the
park call for modern trends in architecture, design and monumental art
based on international and domestic cultural traditions," the architect
said.
