Former Libyan Envoy to Arab League Sheds Light on Imam Musa Sadr's Fate

TEHRAN (FNA)- Abdel Moneim al-Houni, the former member of Libya's revolutionary command council, revealed on Saturday that Muammar Gaddafi's regime has martyred the Iran-born Lebanese Shiite cleric and leader, Imam Musa al-Sadr and that his body can be found in Southern parts of the country.
"The information that we have gained indicates that Imam Musa Sadr and his accompanying team were martyred by Muammar Gaddafi," Houni who resigned his post as Libya's ambassador to the Arab League on February 20, told FNA on Saturday.

He expressed confidence that Imam Musa Sadr has been martyred by the Libyan regime, and said "(former) Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa (who defected to Britain earlier this year) can confirm the issue".

Houni further pointed out that a close friend of his source who is a ranking officer in the Libyan regime has witnessed the killing of Imam Musa Sadr and his entourage.

Houni had earlier told al-Hayat, a Saudi-owned newspaper, that Imam Musa Sadr was killed and buried in the Sabha region in the Southern parts of Libya.

Houni had also told the Arab paper that his brother-in-law, who was the pilot of Qaddafi's private plane, was tasked with transporting Sadr's body to Sabha and was killed himself shortly after doing so to keep the crime secret.

Lebanon's examining magistrate issued a summons in 2008 for Qaddafi to appear for questioning about Sadr. Relations between Libya and Lebanon were strained by the disappearance of the cleric and two of his aides. Libya has always maintained that Sadr left the country to Italy.
