Obama following in Bush’s footsteps: IRGC official
TEHRAN, July 24 (MNA) – An IRGC official has said that there is no significant difference between United States President Barack Obama’s policies and those of former president George W. Bush, emphasizing both of them have tried to implement “ evil policies of the hegemonistic system.”
“Studies and the analyses of similarities and discrepancies between policies of the former U.S. president and Obama show that there is no difference and dissimilarity between their strategies, and both of them have tried to implement plans which are in line with strategic goals of the White House and evil policies of the hegemonistic system,” Masoud Jazayeri said on Saturday.
Modernizing the U.S. Army, purchasing a large amount of submarines, warships, helicopters, and light military vehicles, maintaining the U.S. nuclear supremacy, and deploying intercontinental missiles in many parts of the world are some examples of plans followed by both U.S. presidents, proving that there has been no significant change in policies, the brigadier general explained.
The military commander also said that the Obama administration is pursuing the strategy of “military dictatorship” in the regions which are under its control and influence, adding that the implementation of this strategy will inflict heavy losses on the U.S. people.
“Recently, a trend has been started in the U.S. which has given the president and the U.S. secretary of defense the authority to use military force against other countries without seeking the approval of Congress,” he stated.
“So, the U.S. president has been allowed to give the U.S. military forces permission to invade other countries if he personally deems it necessary,” he said. “The recent military intervention in Libya was an example of using this authority.”
He went on to say, “This is an unforgivable historic mistake and is another black stain on the record of the so-called upholders of democracy and human rights.”
According to the U.S. War Powers Resolution, the U.S. president can send U.S. armed forces into action abroad only by authorization of Congress or in case of a national emergency created by attack upon the U.S., its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.
However, the resolution was disregarded by Obama in 2011, when he did not seek congressional approval for the attack on Libya, arguing that the resolution did not apply to that action.
Jazayeri also said that Iran is deeply concerned about the news reports saying that NATO forces have used depleted uranium in their strikes on Libya.
