NATO Stages New Airstrikes on Libyan Capital

TEHRAN (FNA)- NATO warplanes once again bombed the Libyan capital city of Tripoli on Sunday morning as the country's ruler Muammar Gaddafi continues clinging on power despite airstrikes.
Two explosions have rocked Tripoli. The blasts were heard in the area housing Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi's residence in the early hours of Sunday.

The sound of a fighter plane, followed by the explosions, sent up a huge cloud of white smoke, not far from the compound of Gaddafi at Bab al-Aziziyah.

The Libyan state television said NATO air strikes struck the Libyan capital but gave no further details.

According to Libyan officials, NATO warplanes bombed civilian areas on Saturday, causing damage and casualties. However, the Western military alliance said it struck a military command center.

The developments come as Gaddafi continues clinging on power despite the NATO-led aerial attacks and a lengthening conflict with revolutionaries who now control roughly half of the North African country.

The revolutionary forces seek an end to Gaddafi's decades-long rule.
