Seoul shares open lower on blue-chip losses
SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start on Monday due to losses in blue-chip exporters, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 20.86 points, or 0.96 percent, to 2,150.37 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Major exporters led the decline, with market bellwether Samsung Electronics losing 1.65 percent and top automaker Hyundai Motor falling 0.42 percent.
Shares of POSCO, the world's third-biggest steelmaker, went down 2.32 percent because of its lower-than-expected second-quarter operating profit and grim second-half outlook.
The local currency was trading at 1,054.25 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., down 2.35 won from Friday's close.
