Deputy FM: West Uses Human Rights to Cover Up NATO Military Aggressions

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi rapped the western countries for their politically-tainted attitude towards human rights, saying they use the issue as an instrument to hide the catastrophic events which happen during the NATO military attacks against innocent people across the world.
"All western diplomats consider human rights as a political issue to cover up the NATO's military performance and (is used) as an instrument to divert the world's public opinion," Qashqavi, who is the Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriates' Affairs said on Sunday.
Iran has always lashed out at the western countries for using human rights issues as a tool and pretext for pressurizing independent states to conceal their own crimes and wrong deeds.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in November lambasted continued violation of human rights by certain European countries, and asked them to listen to the demands of their people.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry in November issued a report on the violation of human rights by the US inside and outside its borders, and urged Washington to join the international conventions which prohibit such crimes.
The violation of human rights by the West gained a new face after NATO, still facing numerous accusations over violation of human rights in Afghanistan and other parts of the world, conducted hundreds of sorties over Libya since it assumed control of a military campaign to impose a no-fly zone over the country in late March.
NATO itself has admitted to killing revolutionary fighters and civilians in airstrikes in Eastern Libya but has adamantly refused to apologize for the deadly bombardments.
